PREFACE

The Lowe Art Museum and the first annual Arango International Design Competition is the culmination of an idea by Judith Arango of Arango, Inc. She envisioned a yearly event at the Lowe Art Museum that would establish a significant competition/exhibition for a variety of new and practical designs.

This first Arango Competition, Eating Implements, has introduced new forms and understanding of their function by affording the opportunity to competing artists. An international jury was organized and artists from the United States and Europe entered to form an international event in Miami.

The Lowe Art Museum wishes to take this moment to salute Judith Arango for her dedication to the development of good design.
And special thanks to the jurors Florence Knoll (Mrs. Harry Hood Bassett), Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Danese, Mr. Finn Henriksen, and Mr. Massimo Vignelli. We are fortunate, indeed, to have the support of a business corporation such as Arango, Inc. to undertake a project of such inestimable value.
